Organic flotation reagent is an important pollutant in the mining area in additionto heavy metals. Efforts have been devoted on the ecotoxicology and environmentalbehaviors of traditional organic flotation reagents, such as xanthenes ammonium butylaero float. Those concerning the emerging quaternary ammonium salt flotation havebeen focused on its degradability in natural or artificial conditions. In China, fewstudy has reported the eco-toxicity of the quaternary ammonium, especially itsimpacts on soil and vegetation. This study has investigated the impacts of threetypical quaternary ammonium salts flotation(dodecyl trimethyl ammonium chloride.Dodecyl trimethyl ammonium bromine. Trioctyl methyl ammonium chloride) togermination, soil enzymes and microorganisms. The results are as follows:The sensitivity of three seed germination to quaternary ammonium salts flotationare listed successively as Brassica Parachinensis>Radish>Cucumber. The rootgrowth and germination rate of Brassica Parachinensis showed a significantdose-effects relationship, and therefore, Brassica Parachinensis can be used asindicator plant to represent the toxicity of different quaternary ammonium saltflotation. This toxicity is dependent on the cationic group of flotation. All three kinds of quaternary ammonium salt flotation, dodecyl trimethylammonium chloride, dodecyl trimethyl ammonium bromine and trioctyl methylammonium chloride, have show strong inhibition-activation-weak character. played aminor influence on the activity of soil acid phosphates, with a inhibition rate less than20%, while dodecyl trimethyl ammonium chloride imposed a constant inhibition on it.DTAC and DTAB promoted the activity of phosphates during the twenty-oneexperimental days. Dodecyl trimethyl ammonium chloride showed a strongeractivation effect than inhibition, while trioctyl methyl ammonium played a sustainedinhibition to the activity of unease.DTAC and DTAB persistently inhibit the bacterial population, while trioctyl methylammonium chloride showed less such impact and an obvious promotion in the laterperiod. All three kinds of quaternary ammonium salt flotation have demonstrated similar characteristics of strongly inhibition-activation-weak inhibition to the fungipopulation, with the impacts of inhibition on bacteria greater than on fungal.
