The selection of cutting parameters in the processing has great effects on the surface roughness, selecting the appropriate cutting parameters can reduce the value of surface roughness , improve the machining quality, enhance the wear resistance of parts, improve the fitting accuracy and corrosion resistance.In the paper, the parameters optimization system of milling is designed based on the LabVIEW8.6. Put the 45 steel as the research object, the milling experiment is done. The cutting mathematical model and the surface roughness mathematical model are established. Finally, regard surface roughness as the optimization objective, the cutting parameters are optimized.(1) The development history and the research status are reviewed, the application of LabVIEW in the mechanical engineering is summarized, and also the research progress of response surface method is reviewed. The main research contents and the overall thought in this paper are given. The general form of response surface method model and the analyses method are introduced based on the response surface method response. Then several experiment design methods are introduced(2) Constructing the hardware system of test. The advantages and disadvantages of different bus are analyzed, and the PCI bus system is chosen. The cutting forces are acquired online through the piezoelectric sensors and data acquisition card. The single factor and multi-factors experiment about 45 steel are done by using universal end mill in vertical machining center. And the surface roughness of the parts is measured by microscope.(3) Writing the software system. The response surface method is putted into the LabVIEW programming, and the software system is compiled based on the mathematical theory. According to the requirement analysis, software system is divided into five modules, respectively testing scheme module, data acquisition module, data analysis module, model establishment module and parameters optimization module. And the testing scheme module can generate center combined testing scheme of multiple factors automatically. This module enriched programming functions of LabVIEW; it can be used in engineering design as the inherent functions of LabVIEW. In the paper, the milling test is done by the testing scheme generated by the testing scheme module.(4) Analyzing the mathematical model of surface roughness and optimize the cutting parameters. Combined with single factor experiment, different cutting parameters have different effects on the surface roughness, the test result of 4 factors 5 levels experiment are analyzed. Then the surface roughness model which is obtained from the test and the model from the Design-expert are compared, the results show that the precision of model obtained from the test is higher. Finally, regarding the surface roughness as the optimal objective, the range of the cutting parameters as the constraint, the cutting parameters are optimized. Under the optimum surface roughness, get the cutting parameters this can apply foundation for plane milling 45 steel.
