The intrinsic kinetics of amination of ethanol to acetonitrile over Co-Ni/γ-Al2O3 catalyst in a fixed-bed reactor system was studied systematically.Initial experimental results showed that the reaction temperature and molar radio of ammonia/ethanol are key parameters which influence yield of acetonitrile over the Co-Ni/γ-Al2O3. Therefore, the effects of the above parameters on the reaction were studied by single factor experimental method in the temperature range 613K643K and ethanol/ammonia range 2:110:1. It was found that the yield of acetonitrile and aldehyde formation increased with the increase of reaction temperature and molar radio of ammonia/ethanol, but the yield of butyronitrile and ethylamine decreased with the increase of reaction temperature and molar radio of ammonia/ethanol.The intrinsic kinetic experiments of ethanol to acetonitrile over Co-Ni/γ-Al2O3 catalyst were carried out in a fixed bed integral reactor. First, residence time range excluding external diffusion limitation and the average size range excluding internal diffusion were determined limitations by changing the loading amount and size of the catalyst, respectively. Then the power law kinetic models were established based on the intrinsic kinetic data received by changing the reaction temperature and reactant concentrations. Finally, the kinetic parameters were estimated using statistical software of Matlab. The statistical test results showed that calculated values based on models fit experimental values well.
