Boron Azadipyrromethene (Aza-BODIPY) dyes have been developed more than twenty years. They have execellent photophysical and chemical properties, and have found broad applications. It is very necessary to develop new synthetic methods for the efficient synthesis of novel Aza-BODIPY derivatives and to study the photophysical properties of the resultant molecules to facilitate the extending applications of these dyes. The thesis consists of three aspects as following:1. A series of novel Aza-BODIPYs were synthesized and characterized. It will be useful for the synthesis of new Aza-BODIPY derivatives.2. Several push-pull Aza-BODIPYs were synthesized and characterized. The push-pull effect was found to red-shift the resultant dyes to Near IR region.3.A new series of mon-bromide, double-bromide, polybromide Aza-BODIPY was synthesized ,which are useful photosensitizers for Photodynamic therapy (PDT).
