In recent years, for domestic economic prosperity and development and increasing demand for mineral resources, along with increasing intensity of enterprise exploitation mining, so inevitably some of the mines will pass through the buildings in the mining process. Some sections in the bottom of the buildings will form goafs. The stress strain and displacement, caused by the action of the goaf of time and terrain in the long term, will directly affect the security and stability of buildings on the earth's surface Thus, it provides a scientific frame of reference for the safety of mines and the life and property of villagers living in the buildings on the earth's surface, by the security and stability analysis of buildings on the earth's surface and overlying strata by the goafs formed in the mining process.In this paper, the overlying strata of goafs of the the manganese mine in Mengzi County and buildings on the surface of the ground at the foot of Country Yanzi are studied, using the empirical formula of "three zones" theory to calculate the curve about the changing level of the caving height of the goafs of manganese mine and with application of software Ansys stimulation stress and displacement changes of overlying strata of the goafs of manganese mine, and then to analyze security and stability of buildings on the earth's surface at the foot of Country Yanzi.Major elements are as follows:(1) Through on-site research and data collection relevant information of the manganese mine, to analyze relationship of the relative positions as well as theirs engineering geological conditions between overlying strata of the goafs and buildings on the earth's surface.(2) Consulted the relevant literatures and materials to learn the mutual influence of surface subsidence and building safety and research status quo and methods at home and abroad.(3) Describe failure mechanism of overlying strata and surrounding rocks of the goaf and calculated and analyzed the impaction of the goaf caving zone with "three zones" theory and then determined the affected area of the goaf caving. Lastly concluded that the final calculation of the height of cracking area of the goaf caving which does not catch the range of buildings on the earth's surface.(4) To carry out simulation analysis on the safety and stability and overlying strata of the goaf and buildings on the earth's surface by the use of Ansys numerical simulation software, and obtain the stress and displacement datas from the simulation results of the overlying strata and the buildings on the earth's surface, analyze that buildings on the earth's surface of the goaf are in a safe state.
