Slab-yard, as the most important warehouse in steel industry production line, is an important process in normal production of steel enterprises. There are many logistics operations in slab-yard, and the work environment is very hard, the management of the slab-yard is an important content in enterprise logistics management. As the development of 3D modeling and visualized computer technology, it will be possible to display the scene and the logistics operations of the slab-yard in 3D space. So,3D modeling and visualized research for slab-yard has important theoretical and practical significance.In this paper, the 3D visualization technology and the management of the slab-yard were connected to create the 3D virtual field view, against the background of the production practice of a hot mill. The purpose of this research is to know the inventory information and the space utilization in real time, and make a previous assessment of its logistics operations. This article focuses on two points:the preview of the slab-yard and the 3D animation demo of the logistical operations. In this paper, a 3d text note model was constructed and used to perform the 3d dynamic noting. DirectX technology, mouse pick technology, collision detection technology were applied to realize several functions, such as dynamic text note, single region shows, message show and so on. All of these further enhanced the rendering quality of the slab-yard scene. This paper made a deep study on the logistics operations in slab-yard in addition, performed the animation of outbounding and the turning out of the slab pile, with which we can see the conjunction of all kinds of logistics tools, so that people can discover the mistakes in time and avoid unnecessary loss. At last the time of the whole process of the slab outbound was estimated.Based on the above mentioned, using the object-oriented programming design method, a 3D slab-yard software system was designed and carried out. The software system can set parameters and operate according to the actual need, and realize the man-machine interactive function. The software can improve the predictability of policy makers and the management of the slab-yard. The test of the software is proved to be good, it will have a good application prospect.
