Batch Reactor is a typical chemical equipment, which usually be applied to the production of small volume, long reaction time, or strict with the reaction temperature in different stages. As time-varying, nonlinear, complex reaction mechanisms, etc., batch reaction is one of hot topics of process control. However, due to a lack of sensors used to detect product performance directly (slurry concentration, composition, etc.), and the product performance is mainly affected by the reactor temperature. Therefore, the study of reactor temperature control is one of hot topics in chemical process control.Based on the device characteristics of 50L batch in the Liaoning Key Lab of Advanced Systems for Industry Equipments and requirements of the polymerization process, the reactor temperature system is a large delay and large inertia. As the composition, volume, temperature and other factors change, the parameters of controlled object are time-varying. PID control can not meet the high quality production requirements. In this paper, we connect the Smith Predictor Control with model reference identification and design the adaptive identifier to adjust the Smith predictor, making the dynamic performance of reference model and time-delay controlled object as uniform as possible. This control strategy can not only compensate large time-delay, but also be able to follow the slow change system. This paper uses the Smith adaptive control algorithm to batch reactor temperature control, and designs the Smith adaptive identifier to adapt the widely varied time-delay system. The simulation results show that the application of Smith adaptive identification algorithm can achieve good control effect.
