After the coal seams of thin bedrock and thick topsoil were being extracting, whether the bedrock can form a self-stabilizing support structure and support the top soil; if the epipedon contains clay, whether the clay layer can form a support structure together with thin bedrock and have effect on the aquifer of overlying strata, as well as what effect will produce, these are all research emphasis. This paper centered around the typical characteristics of the thin bedrock and thick topsoil coal seams in DaLiuTA Mine, based on the previous research results, we got the physical properties of clay apply, further more, we got the motion law of overlying strata in fully mechanized face under the condition of thin bedrock and thick topsoil layers which contain clay; This paper obtained that the overlying clay layers can self-support a part of load, determined limited thickness of the thin bedrock which can ensure the safe of mining in fully mechanized caving face; calculated the theoretical height of crack belt under the condition of thin bedrock and thick topsoil. Combined with results, this paper proposed the corresponding preventive measures which had got good application and provided a certain theoretical research and reference for exploiting under the conditions similar to thin bedrock.
