Sites are important basis of carrier and substance for human production and living, which impact the development of human and related ecological environment directly. The issue of contaminated site is becoming a serious social problem and receiving attentions from more and more people by the development of industry, agriculture and urban constructions. Contaminated site data have various data styles, variety of data items and complex assessment methods, so it is important to manage the contaminated site and assess risk systematically.Firstly, this paper introduced the existing research status at home and abroad about contaminated site information system, and indicated that our country was short of professional contaminated site database and information system. Secondly, contaminated site risk management process was summarized. Based on the research of major site assessment methods at home and abroad, the methods which were used in this paper was determined. With the actual needs of site assessment management, national environmental standards and norms were referred, corresponding data standards were constituted, and contaminated site database was designed and built. The database included site information sub-database, site environment investigation sub-database, assessment sub-database, intermediate outcome achievement sub-database and system management sub-database. Integrated GIS with spatial database technology, site environmental monitoring technology and contaminated site risk assessment technology, the soil contaminated site investigation and assessment information system was designed and built, which implemented effective integration and management for soil contaminated site information, and provided risk assessment results and necessary decision support for users accurately and timely. Finally, this paper implemented comprehensive investigation and risk assessment for a smelt factory. According to the investigation, analysis and assessment results with Arsenic (As), Cadmium (Cd), Copper (Cu), Mercury (Hg), Nickel (Ni), Lead (Pb), Total Chromium (TCr) and Zinc (Zn), the smelt factory was proved to cause serious harm for ecological environment and human health, and it had to carry out treatment and remediation urgently.
