Nitrous oxide (N2O) is now recognized as an environmental pollutant. It is not only a substantial contributor to catalytic ozone depletion by being a major source of NOx in the stratosphere, but is also a greenhouse gas. N2O has 310 and 21 times the global warming potential (GWP) of CO2 and CH4, respectively. To control the emission of N2O from chemical processes, the catalysts for N2O decomposition have been widely studied in the last three decades. The Sol-Gel method and citrate combustion method were adopted to synthesize Perovskite or perovskite-like oxides samples in this dissertation, respectively. The structure properties of samples were characterized by XRD, and H2-TPR, O2-TPD were in flavor of understanding the crystal structure, surface characteristics and surface active species. The catalytic activity of several perovskite and perovskite-like catalysts were tested, and the effect of the alkaline earth metal ions, alkaline earth carbonate, alkaline earth oxides doped perovskite-like catalysts for catalytic decomposition of N2O were inspected. It was found that the activity in N2O direct decomposition could be improved by substituting all alkaline-earth metals for La, in which the samples of substituting Ba for La performed best activity. Doping alkaline earth oxides also had a great influence to the catalytic activity of perovskite-like. CaO can promoted the catalytic performance of perovskite-like in N2O direct decomposition. But BaO had serious activity inhibition. La1.6Sro.4Cu04-20%MgO samples showed excellent catalytic activities for the decomposition of N2O, which can convert 100% N2O to N2 at 450 degree centigrade In addition, the paper also researched the catalytic activity of perovskite-like mixed with the alkaline earth carbonate. It was found that the catalytic activity of perovskite-like mixed with 20% BaCO3 may be raised. The mixture of SrCO3 or CaCO3 was not significantly affected on the catalytic activity.
