The rolling mill system is composed of main motor, connection shaft, work roller and backup roller equal to a "mass-spring system". Because that elastic connection between motor and roller, phenomenon of torsional vibration is ubiquitous in drive system, when the load disturbances happen, especially steel enters roller. The torsional vibration not only will lower performance of drive system of rolling mill and hamper the production of product with high quality and accuracy, but also reduce the fatigue life of drive system of rolling mill.In this paper, make the rough mill system of 2300 mm hot rolling mill production line as the study, make the mechanical part and the electrical part as an integrated system to research. The paper has made the rolling mill system composed of main motor, connection shaft, work roller and backup roller equal to a "mass-spring system" consisted of some inertia components and elastic components through analyzing mechanical transmission components of drive system of rolling mill. Then the "mass-spring system" is simplified to a two-mass system whose mathematical model has been built in the following. Based on the model, the mechanism of torsional vibration of drive system of rolling mill has been analyzed.The mathematical model of simulation following control system is derived and the process on torsional vibration suppression of rolling mill is analyszd in this paper. The system contains nonlinear elements, uncertain parameter and external interference. So this method could not suppression the torsional vibration of rolling mill. Taking advantage of good approaching performance to nonlinear mapping and online self-learning and self-tuning adaptability, a sort of adaptive inverse control based on neural network is adopted. And the simulation results demonstrate the method designed by this paper has good dynamic performance and effective to uppress orsional vibration of drive system of rolling mill.
