The whole process simulation of the gas direct hydration of propylene has been researched in this paper. Based on the law of material conservation, energy conservation and momentum conservation, the model for the production facilities have established. According to the actual plant characteristics, the proper thermodynamic equation and the calculation method have been chosen, making the whole process to convergence shabbily, which also proved the accuracy of the simulation and algorithm. On this basis, the reactor and distillation sequences were optimized to enable them to better reflect the actual conditions and to achieve better separation by sensitivity analysis of the process parameters.Propylene hydration reactor is adiabatic fixed bed reactor, using phosphoric acid/kieselguhr as catalyst. The mixture of propylene and water which have mixed in proportion flows through the reactor at a certain temperature and pressure. Hydration reaction generates isopropyl alcohol and other by-products. According to the law of material conservation and energy conservation, the adiabatic fixed bed reactor model have been established, the appropriate kinetic equation and the thermodynamic properties have been selected. The Runge-Kutta method to solve the reactor model has been used. Isopropyl alcohol distillation sequences are mainly concluding the tower of light components, azeotropic tower and distillation. During the simulation, all modules are connected together and become a whole mathematics module by sequential modular approach. The isopropyl alcohol distillation sequences have been optimized by sensitivity analysis. Use better process parameters to achieve better separation.
