Bauxite resources in China are abundant, but the quality is not high. Since resources are of high silicon and low A/S, cause the alumina industry's high operating costs and less competitive in the international arena, which is not conducive to the survival and development of alumina industry. Points in the alkali-soluble carbon in the alumina production process is membrane electrolysis of sodium carbonate to sodium bicarbonate and sodium hydroxide. There are many technical issues to be studied and solved:how to cost-effectively remove impurities in the mother liquor prolonging the life of cationic membrane; select the appropriate electrode material making the cell voltage low and stable, and so on. This paper, based on the above issues, states the main work as follows:1. The establishment of determination of trace silicon in the presence of a large number of impurity ions, and accurate determination of silicon in the mother liquor;2. Successfully carried out a second liberate silicon in the carbonation, greatly increased the A/S index, thereby improving the quality of production of alumina;3. Established measurement of trace levels of aluminum by electrochemical methods in the high salt concentration, provides a great potential for the follow-up impurity;4. Set up our own electrochemical device, effectively removing the impurities in the carbon sub-liquor, instead of ion exchange resins, found way to achieve economic environment, significantly reducing production costs into remove impurity.
