This paper was to improve wear-resisting property of high manganese steel. Two cemented carbide:sintered tungsten carbide (YQ4) and cast tungsten carbide (YZ) were made into tungsten carbide/high manganese steel electrodes and then prepared tungsten carbide particles reinforced high manganese steel based Composite Surfacing layer by Oxygen acetylene flame surfacing method.Relevant tungsten carbide/high manganese steel composite surfacing layers was obtained by making different content and particle size of the welding rod of tungsten carbide particles. The content and particle size of tungsten carbide influenced the performance of microstructure and wear resistance of the tungsten carbide/high manganese steel composite surfacing layers, which was studied by Metallographic analysis, SEM EDS, XRD and wear test. The results showed that, in tungsten carbide/high manganese steel surfacing layers, which were prepared by surfacing method, tungsten carbide particles were evenly distributed and the metallurgical bonding of tungsten carbide particles and metal matrix were better. There were pro-eutectic austenite dendrite and eutectic ledeburite structure around tungsten carbide particles and austenitic equiaxial crystal and carbide and so on were away from particles. In surfacing layers, eutectic organization increased with the increase of tungsten carbide addition amount and the decrease of the grain size. Adding cast tungsten carbide made surfacing layers to generate more eutectic organization. In the 50% tungsten carbide surfacing layers, the re-crystallization of tungsten carbide particles separated out around tungsten carbide particles. The wear resistance of surfacing layers were improved with the increase of tungsten carbide addition amount, which small size particles were better than the surfacing layer with larger particles. For the same size and content, the wear resistance of cast tungsten carbide/high manganese steel surfacing layers were better than sintering tungsten carbide/high manganese steel surfacing layers, while the wear resistance of sintering tungsten carbide/high manganese steel surfacing layers improved greatly after work hardening. The comprehensive wear resistance of the 40-60 mesh,40% content of the mixed tungsten carbide (YQ4+YZ)/high manganese steel surfacing layers were better.
