With the increase of mining depth, the heat disaster has become prominent day by day, which could cause great harm to mining work, and also to health and safety of staff. At present, the mines in China mainly use the mechanical cooling method to solve this problem. Although the effect is obvious, the costs of operation are quite high. As a result, the mines have to afford an additional burden on energy consumption. Based on the above considerations, the technology for ice making by heat pipe utilizing natural cold resource is proposed, which applies theories of heat pipe to ice making, so as to store ice in cold season and consume it in hot season.Firstly, the turnover of heat exchanging is analyzed, and the quantitative evaluation criteria are given out, such as cooling capacity of heat pipe, range of heat transfer influence and freezing radius. Then a mathematical model of ice making by heat pipe is established. Under the assumptions, the model is simplified as an one-dimensional heat transfer process, and the mathematical expressions for thermal resistances, thermal power and temperature of vapor in heat pipe are derived. And also the theoretical variation of ice thickness surrounding the heat pipe is concluded, as well as the relationship between parameters of heat pipe and cooling capacity.Based on the above theoretical research, the specific experimental design is made. Six∮32×3×1200-1500 thermosyphon in low temperature are selected as the experimental components, which contain ammonia as the working medium, and the spacing between two pipes is decided as 0.5m. The tank for ice storage is steel rectangular, which comprise of three parts. There is a layer of 45mm rigid polyurethane foam between the inner shell and the outer shell as the insulation for tank. This experiment lasts for two months, through which the rule of ice making is obtained and the feasibility of this technology is successfully verified. At last, a complete ice-making system by heat pipe utilizing natural cold rescource is designed against the harm of heat disaster in a mine of Jining. Through the corresponding social and economic benefits analysis, it is concluded that the study could not only bring huge economic benefits for mines, but also promote the sustainable development of the whole mining industry. Above all, the application of this technology has a bright future.
