The large-scale exploitation of underground coal often causes the problem of serious mining subsidence. By rock and surface displacement and deformation, mining subsidence damages the farmlands, buildings, traffic and other facilities of mine, bring adverse effect to production, life and even sustainable development of mining area. Under the combined action of various factors, significant spatio-temporal variation of mining subsidence occurs. Timely monitoring and deep analysis of spatio-temporal characteristics of mining subsidence are helpful to finding out its causes and harms, and play an active role in its prevention and treatment.Nowadays, geodetic surveying, GPS surveying and the InSAR (Interferometrie Synthetic Aperture Radar) provide multi-source, multi-temporal and massive spatio-temporal data of mining subsidence and realize its effective monitoring. However, spatio-temporal data management and analysis of mining subsidence are lagged behind its data acquisition. There are still a lot work left to finish.Using the mining subsidence data obtained by InSAR and other method, based on the related theories of geography, engineering geology and rock mechanics for mine, research and application on the spatio-temporal analysis for mining subsidence were realized by the advantage of geographic information system in data integration, processing, analysis and expression. First of all, spatio-temporal semantic research of mining subsidence was finished and the concepts, characteristics and influencing factors of mining subsidence spatio-temporal variation were discussed. Secondly, spatio-temporal data organization for mining subsidence were realized by spatio-temporal data model based on version-increment. Then, according to different characteristics between vector and raster data of mining subsidence, the contents and methods of spatio-temporal analysis for mining subsidence were presented and explained while the DInSAR data analysis module for mining subsidence finished for raster analysis. Finally, the theoretical and module achievements were applied in spatio-temporal analysis of mining subsidence in study area. GIS is proved to have a broad application prospect in spatio-temporal research of mining subsidence and it will contribute to safety production, resource utilization and environmental protection of mining area.
