Sandstone aquifers in the roof and floor of coal seams are usually direct water-filling aquifers and have an important effect on coal mines' production. Based on the analysis of the geological and hydrogeological condition in Yili NO1 coal mine, the paper forecasted and evaluated the water abundance and the water disaster danger of the sandstone aquifers in the roof and floor of the No3 and No5 coal seams, the main mining coal seams in the mine. Sandstone's thickness variety, its distribution characteristics and the combination characteristics of the sandstone and mudstone was analyzed by drawing depositional section maps. The paper quantativly described the lithology and structure characteristics of the coal seams'roof and floor by constructing lithology structure index. By analyzing the influencing factors of sandstone aquifers' water abundance, the paper ascertained sandstone aquifers' water abundance's evaluation factors which were sandstone's thickness,content and structure of the coal seams' roof and floor and classify sandstone aquifers' water abundance which were divided into three levels:rich water abundance, medium water abundance, weak water abundance. According to impermeable layer thickness, lithology, permeability, physical mechanic property, comprehensively analyze the impermeable ability of aquifuge. According to the numerical simulation of failure law of overburden motion using simulation software, the paper analyzes the cutting off damage process and principle of the roof during coal mining. Comprehensively considering the lithology structure index, the sandstone's content, the height of fractured zone and the impermeable ability, the paper overlays the division map of the water abundance and carved up the water disaster danger subarea of the sandstone aquifers in the roof and floor of the coal seams and the sandstone aquifers were divided into three levels which are dangerous area, less dangerous area and safe area. Under the condition of the overburden's overall cutting off, the pater assesses the water disaster danger of Quaternary acquifer on the basis of the thickness of aquifuge, shear height and divides into four leves which are dangerous area, less dangerous area,less safe area and safe area.The pater probes into the prevention and cure technology ways and measures of the water disaster in the section.
