At present, there are three main sizes in the sizing market, including polyvinyl alcohol size, polyacrylic size and starch size. The PVA size is replaced gradually, because it can't be biodegraded and pollutes the environment seriously; polyacrylic size has serious re-adherence and points ground difficult. So according to the defects of the two big sizes, thus it is high time that a kind of cheap and biodegradable and pollution-free size should be developped. With the development of science and technology, the starch are used more and more widely, and promote the starch modification technology research. Starch is a natural polymers with low price, and it can be biodegradable and renewable. The chemical structure of starch will be changed when it deformated, so it has the ability which raw starch does not have. There are many ways of denatured starch, including the acid denaturation, oxidation, graft, esterification, etherification, crosslinking and so on.In order to improve the potato starch paste insufficiency and flaw sizing ability, expand the scope of application of potato starch paste, this paper preparated two grafted starch, studing the effects of the grafted denaturation on some abilities,including membrane ability, grout viscosity stability and adhesion, compared the modified starch and starch and several other formula of various ability indicators. And this paper also discussed the influence of various ability indicators of the rate of 6% containing solid potato modified starch and potato with PVA used mixtured size denatured starch of polyester/cotton yarns sizing, including elongation, breaking strength, hairiness, wear-resisting, etc. Experimental results showed that the vinyl acetate grafted denatured starch warp size comprehensive ability was good, and the vinyl acetate grafted starch mixed with PVA size had very excellent ability, and the application of denatured starch used mixtured size reduced the dosage of traditional PVA size, reducing the environmental pollution and the cost.This paper also studied on the preparation technology,expounded the dosage of the initiator and the monomer.Experimental results showed that when the reaction temperature for 48℃, reaction time for 120min, vinyl acetate concentration for 1.26 mol/L, acrylic ethyl concentration for 0.56 mol/L, initiator concentration for 5.83 mmol/L, grafted rate and grafting efficiency were higher.
