Due to their simple synthesis process and flexible molecular structures, styrene- maleimide copolymers have been widely uesd in the field of function materials. However, the applications of styrene-maleimide copolymers in electronic memory were few reported. In this paper, styrene-maleimide copolymers were synthesised by radical polymerization. The memory devices having the ITO/Polymer/Al sandwich structure were fabricated from these polymers, and then the memory effects were studied. The research items are as follows:(1) A polystyrene derivative (PVCz) with pendant carbazole groups was synthesized and characterized. The memory characteristics of ITO/PVCz/Al were tested, and then the memory mechanisms were studied.(2) Two styrene-maleimide copolymers with different substituents (-OCH3 and -NO2), PVCz-MP and PVCz-NP, were synthesized. The memory characteristics of ITO/PVCz-MP/Al and ITO/PVCz-NP/Al were tested, and then analysed the influence of -OCH3 and -NO2 on the performances of the two memory devices.(3) Two styrene-maleimide copolymers (PS-DP and PVCz-DP) which contain azobenzene groups were synthesized and characterized. Then we studied the memory effects of these two copolymers.
