With the development of social progress and technology, people demand highlyabout the harmful elements in steel material increasingly, which requires themetallurgical workers based on the original science and technology of removalinclusions to refine them in order to find an optimal method. in recent yearsmetallurgy workers pay great attention to the application of electromagnetic fields inmetallurgy. The combination of magnetic and metallurgical process often means that anew technology is going to be produced. The removal of inclusions by applied electricfields which is regarded as a new technologies in metallurgy attracts many people athome and abroad recently. In this paper a briefly summary of the methods and techniques of inclusionsremoval have been done, and the application of external electromagnetic technologyare outlined. A feasibility analysis of using the applied electric field to removeinclusions based on the thermodynamics is carried out. Summed up the rules of theactivity order of the impurity elements in the common inclusions at 1823K with thesame oxygen potential, sulfur potential. The decomposition voltage of inclusions1823K is calculated. The results show that almost all of the inclusions can be brokendown in the applied voltage of 3V, and the formation of the gas escaping from theanode, the metal enriched at cathode to achieve the purpose of purifying liquid steel.Based on the preliminary results of experiment: when an external DC voltage isused, the inclusions will be gathered in the liquid steel in a region, resulting in part ofsurface area increased; when pulse voltage is applied in a certain range, the changingcurrent and the induced magnetic field give rise to eddy currents, which help theinclusions be removed, when the pulse voltage is too large the inclusions is involvedin the liquid steel again.
