With continuously improving of our forging technology, the number of independent forging enterprise is gradually increasing. Private enterprises and small and medium-sized enterprises have been appeared one by one. Because of the shortages in capital, technology and other aspects, requirement for forging machinery in small and medium enterprises focus on small and convenient. Thus small forging manipulator is still the indispensable production equipment of forging industry in the future market.As a kind of forging support equipment, forging manipulator has the important status, but its shortcoming is that it can not take forge piece from the furnace. It must request a discharging machine with its work, which wasted the time of pre-forging preparation, reduced the efficiency of production. It is a high requirement on workshops space and capital when the forging manipulator and discharging machine are both exist.The functions between forging manipulator and discharging machine are compared in this paper. The clamp of the existing forging manipulator is improved and the rotating mechanism is added in order to achieve the two main function of the manipulator and put on a feeder. Based on the parameters of 5t small forging manipulator,the structure improvement of clamp and virtual assembly model can be done by using the large three-dimensional design software Solidworks. The structure interference checking can be done for the virtual prototype model. Then the structure where the interference exist can be improved and the virtual prototype model can be modified again. The improved model should be checked in structure interference again in order to determine the final model structure, until the change of the production all done completely.At the same time, COSMOSMotion is used to simulate the motion of the forging manipulator.The large-scale general finite element analysis software ANSYS is used to analysis the stress and strain of the main parts of clamp, such as clamp arm,pin and Drow Ring. testing clamp's strength, provide a theoretical basis for the real prototype manufacture.
