The environment of the museum impacts the cultural relics long-term preserved in it a lot, which relative humidity is a key factor. When the relative humidity is improper or changes fiercely, it may bring the fatal harm to the cultural relics. The traditional air-conditioning system, an active moisture control method, consumes a lot of energy. Research and develop the humidity-controlling material, which is a passive moisture control method, is of great value. The paper prepared 3 kinds of composite humidity-controlling materials, which respectively selected mesoporous silica gel, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose and chitin as the base material, complex with certain types of inorganic salts, pore-forming agent, other polymer or inorganic materials. The article discussed the factors influencing the performance of the humidity-controlling materials, and got the best ratio of the composite materials. Analysis and characterization of the pore structure, surface structure, thermal stability and security by means of analytical methods, such as BET, FTIR, SEM, TGA, and so on.The results indicate that:these composite humidity-controlling materials have great hygroscopicity and moisture capacity, faster adsorption and desorption rate;in the context of a certain amount of hygroscopicity, they can control the relative humidity within the range of 40%-65%.These materials have a longer service life, and can be used repeatedly. Their thermal stability and safety performance are excellent, and they can meet the requirement of the cultural relics preservation.
