Based on the superiorities of surfactant systems and N-heterocylic structure applied in catalysis, a series of N-heterocyclic ligands were synthesized from heterocyclic compound, Behera's amine and alkyl or perfluoroalkyl iodide, this kind ligands were suitable for catalysis in water. A hydrocarbon or fluorocarbon chain was attached to the molecule as hydrophobic group, and the tricarboxyl structure was introduced in the ligands after hydrolysis of the terminal ester groups, which acted as the hydrophilic groups. In order to test the influence of different carbon chains on the surface activity of target ligands, we measured the surface tension of ligands containing respectively an butyl, octyl, dodecyl, or perfluorooctyl chain respectively. Then the relationship of different alkyl chain or perfluoroalkyl chain and the surface activity of the ligands were explored in this thesis. The ligands containing pyridine scaffold were able to coordinate with palladium metals. The formed catalyst system had both surface activity and stability. In this thesis, it was demonstrated that the catalyst system was an efficient catalyst for Suzuki reaction in water. The catalyst could be reused three times. Additionally, the complex of the ligand and Cu was used in catalyzing C-N coupling reaction.
