Carbonyldiimidazole (CDI) is an important pharmaceutical intermediate, which is used in synthesis of imidazole drugs and antibiotics, and widely used in adhesives of enzymes and proteins, in particular is applied to the synthesis of peptide compounds as the bonding agent. Currently the main Synthesis methods are by phosgene, phosgene is a highly toxic material which causes serious environmental pollution, and the amount has been strictly controlled. In this paper, CDI was successfully synthesized by carbonylation of dimethyl carbonate, and the qualitative and quantitative analysis methods were determined for getting the content of CDI and imidazole, mainly has studied catalyst types about the reaction, including metal catalysts, metal oxide catalysts, alkaline catalysts, acid catalysts and resin catalysts, zinc acetate was selected as the final catalyst, and on this basis, Many effect factors were investigated such as catalyst, catalyst quantity, reaction time, mole ratio, reaction temperature. The thermodynamics of both main and side reactions was computed and analyzed. The results show that under the conditions of the amount of catalyst was 2%(the imidazole quality percentage), reaction time was 9h, n (DMC)/n (imidazole)=5.93, reaction temperature was 90℃, the conversion rate of the imidazole was 39.80%, the selection of CDI was 13.91%, the yield of CDI was 5.54 percent.
