Leachate is the major environmental contamination of landfill. It is a kind of organic wastewater, produced in the process of landfill disposal, with high concentrations of pollutants. The anaerobic fermentation of municipal refuse and the precipitation are the important caused that produce the leachate. Leachate should pollute the rivers and soil severely if it discharged to nature without any treatment.Based on the problems of existing technology and the status of small-scale landfill, an appropriate treatment process was stress fully discussed. As a result an original technique was developed to treat landfill leachate, which combined anaerobic treatment, two-stage sequencing batch reactor (SBR), and coagulation-sedimentation process. In this process nitration and denitrification divided in two separate steps to ensure nitrogen and CODcr removal treatment effect more significant. This paper takes a coastal County Landfill in Zhejiang Province as research subject, this new treatment process was applied to this landfill leachate treatment.The whole reformation process was described in detail. Every process'performance was analyzed and discussed, combined whith 45 consecutive days of operation. The running results indicate that except CODCr, the other routine indexes of the effluent almost met the requirements of Standard for Pollution Control on the Landfill Site of Municipal Solid Waste(GB 16889-2008) by optimizing the operation parameters. The removal efficiencies of NH3-N could reach 95%, and CODCr, TN, TP could reach 90%. The cost reduced by 43% and the treatment capacity increased from 35t/d to 60 t/d.This technique has the advantage of simple flow, steady operation, reasonable cost, and therefore it is suitable to be applied in small-scale leachate treatment.
