Mold is becoming increasingly important in the national economy and its production technology level has become an important indicator to measure a country's product manufacturing level. With the development of the world economy, more and more new way of forming comes to the fore, In order to solve the problem of uneven contraction of thick-walled products, and the surface quality and the mechanical properties problem of complex-structured products, gas-assisted injection molding has been generated and widely used. In the paper, with the mold designing of shower head as an example, design and research the gas-assisted injection molding.In this paper, gas-assisted injection mold design is basis to gas-assisted injection molding process and conventional injection mold design method as theory, with empirical formula and the CAE simulation data; Design modeling and carry the assembly of mould by CAD software UG NX6.0 and Mold-Wizard as the platform. Main work is as follows:1. With reference to a great amount of related literature resource, understand the development status of domestic and international injection mould, especially that of the gas-assisted injection molding mould; summarize the developing trend of gas-assisted injection molding mould according to problems on mold CAD/CAM/ CAE.2. Sum up the injection molding process, the mold structure and the principle, generalize the rationale and structure designing principle of the gas-assisted injection molding and its mold and thus establish the foundation for the three-dimensional parametric design and calculation of the mould parts structure.3. Design a three-dimensional modeling for the product by using CAD Three-dimensional designing software UG, and tentatively design its mold structure with the principles of mould design. Analyze the gate location and number of three-dimensional model and finally determine a reasonable gating system by taking advantage of the Moldflow analysis software.4. Simulate the flow and filling situation of products through Moldflow/flow module, and find out the main impact parameters of melt flow and gas penetration; carry out multiple optimization and analysis by changing the molding process parameters to finally ascertain the best parameters.5. Calculate and design the molding parts structure, gating and cooling systems according to the mould structure designing theory and empirical formula out of the actual production coupled with the analysis results of Moldflow, determine and check a reasonable gate and runner system, cooling circuit layout.6. Design the basic mould parts structure of gas-assisted injection molding and check relevant parameters by Mold Wizard module of three-dimensional designing software, and achieve the virtual assembly of the gas-assisted mould of shower head.The cycle of design-analysis-optimization-re-design is realized and a reasonable and effective solution for the mould design of gas-assisted injection molding is provided, by designing the gas-assisted injection molding of shower head.
