People have become increasingly demanding medical dressing with the development of technology, developing and utilizing of new medical dressing materials is becoming an important issue in medical field. Copper alginate fiber is a new type alginate fiber, high moisture absorption, moisture absorption, oxygen permeability and excellent gel obstructive and other properties, which corresponds with the requirements of modern wound dressings. To provide theoretical basis for developing copper alginate fiber as wound dressings in medical, antibacterial, blocking bacteria and basic properties of copper alginate fiber are systematically investigated using modern testing techniques and methods in this thesis.In order to settle above several issues, this paper studies the copper alginate fiber in following several aspects:(I) Study the basic properties of copper alginate fiber. The longitudinal shape of the fiber was uniform thickness and grooves, the cross section of fiber was irregular jagged and no skin core structure; Copper alginate fiber had small breaking strength, high moisture absorption, good friction resistance and electrical conductivity properties.(II) The antibacterial property of copper alginate fiber was studied by means of agar diffusion method and flash shaking method. Copper alginate fiber had good antibacterial effects against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Candida albicans.(III) Study antibacterial mechanism with scanning electron microscope, compare with calcium alginate fiber and alginate zinc fiber. Bacteria obviously changed after contacting with fibers, the main reason was that copper ion had a damaging effect on cell wall. Furthermore, thallophytic osmotic pressure was changed and then the normal metabolism of thallus was destroyed before thallus died.(IV) The absorbability and the property of blocking bacteria were studied by contact wound dressings test method. Copper alginate fiber showed high absorption, decided mainly by structure of fiber; Copper alginate fiber also had blocking bacteria, copper ion that fiber released can destruct the cell membrane function, thereby inhibiting the growth, and killing most bacteria and fungi.
