It has been attractive research to develop magnesium and its alloys in embedding biomaterials due to their proper mechanical properties, excellent biocompatibility as well as biodegradable characteristics. Nowadays, the application of magnesium and magnesium alloys in the biodegradable degradation mainly concentrated in the bracket of the blood vessels, the fixed fracture material, and bone restorative biological material. But magnesium alloy has demerit such as fast corrosion rate, thus study on the corrosion characteristics ofmagnesium and magnesium alloy and improvement of the surface modificationtechnology have been one of key issues in application of biological materials.In this paper, the mechanical properties and microstructure of the pure magnesium alloy, rare earth magnesium alloy and AZ31 magnesium alloy were studied. Diamond-Like Carbon film was deposited on the surface of AZ31 magnesium alloy. The AZ31 with Diamond-Like Carbon film was analyzed by SEM,EDS and AFM, the thickness and morphology of the film were analyzed. By comparing the characteristics of the magnesium alloy with and without DLC film, the application feasibility to meet the requirements of implant materials was discussed.
