Eutrophication is one of the most prominent environmental problems of our country, as well as a problem of the control of water pollution at home and abroad. Macrophytes restoration of entrophic water body is an increasing concern because of its low cost, well eco-effective and high general value. The single factor was designed of nitrogen, phosphorus of this paper. Under the experimental conditions, the capability to assimilate nitrogen, phosphorus and the responses of the morphological characteristics (the leaf number, leaf aera and height), physiological indicators (the content of chlorophyll, soluble sugar and proline) and biomass of S. trifolia var. sinensis systematically were studied. The initial conclusions were as follows.(1) S. trifolia var. sinensis had a good purifying effect in the water with the range of TN and TP concentrations 7.20mg/L-72.0mg/L and 1.55mg/L-31.0mg/L. The absorption of nitrogen and phosphorus accounted for 27.0%-61.0% and 36.6%-42.8% in the removal process of nitrogen and phosphorus. The assimilation of S. trifolia var. sinensis played an important role during the process.(2) S. trifolia var. sinensis could grow in the water with the range of TN and TP concentrations 0.024mg/L-72.0mg/L and 0.031 mg/L-31.0mg/L, so there was a wide tolerance range in the concentration of nitrogen and phosphorus. The change of nitrogen concentration affected the height, the leaf number and aera, the biomass of the entire plant(including the fresh weight of ground and underground part)observably, so nitrogen in the environment was the main limiting factors of S. trifolia var. sinensis.(3) S. trifolia var. sinensis increased the content of chlorophyll, soluble sugar and proline simultaneously to response to the increasing of nitrogen concentration, in the water with the range of TN concentration 0.24mg/L-72.0mg/L. Especially, there was a better growth of S. trifolia var. sinensis in the high nitrogen concentration water (36.0mg/L,72.0mg/L). S. trifolia var. sinensis had stronger adversity resistance and endurance in the high nitrogen concentration water.
