Intumescent flame retardant is widly studied due to its non-toxic, environmentally friendly, stable and rapid development in recent years. TypeⅡammonium polyphosphate (APP-Ⅱ) is the important part in intumescent flame retardant which has the impact effect on the performance of intumescent flame retardant. The traditional industrial products APP-Ⅱis mainly producedby P2O5-DAP or P2O5-DAP-Urea process, this process is high energy consumption, high pollution and does not meet the national energy saving policies. In this paper, I studied the effect of APP-Ⅱflame retardancy which synthesized by wet line, and compared with the thermal line products. The results showed that both effect of flame retardancy are equivalent, which indicate that the wet production line of APP-Ⅱcan actually substitute the thermal route. On this basis, the paper also studied the properties of flame-retardant in polypropylene (PP) by different content and different size of APP. And by limiting oxygen index, horizontal and vertical burning test, TG and mechanical testing to characterize the effect of flame-retardant and discussing the mechanism. Then modification of APP by using silane coupling agent KH550 and applied the modified products to the PP, studied the properties of flame-retardant in PP by modified APP. Discussing the mechanism of intumescent flame-retardant. Further study is to explore the reaction mechanism of synergistic agent and APP acting together in the material...
