RDX is an explosive of widely application in various fields. The production technology of RDX is mature and basically similar at home and abroad. The RDX of different diameter range from grade I to grade VIII can be obtained. But it is difficult to meet the military need. Based on the current production technology, the effect of crystallization technology on the mean diameter and process of RDX was studied in this paper. The removing technology of acid from RDX is discussed at the same time.The influences of various factors on the crystallization of RDX, such as the concentration and quantity of nitric acid, reaction temperature, reaction time were investigated. The mean diameter of RDX was more than lmm under the better reaction conditions with concentration 89% and quantity ratio 90% of nitric acid at 3/2T℃. The RDX in a regular shape with mean diameter at 1.3mm is obtained at the above optimal conditions.Orthogonal experiment of removing acid from RDX via ordinary method is designed by combining single quantity of water, washing time, washing temperature. The optimal conditions of technology are:the volume of water is 1.2V1ml, washing time is 1.25T1, single washing time is 1.6t1min, stir velocity is 2v1, and the acidity of RDX is about 0.03% reducing 0.02% than the military standard(0.05%). The acidity of RDX via Ultrasonic cleaning was 0.02% under the better conditions:the range temperature between 2T2℃and 3T2℃, washing time between 7/3t2~3t2imin, cleaning power range from u% to 8/7v%. The experiment results show that the latter method can be used for removing acid from RDX.The sensitivity of RDX with mean diameter ranging from 0.1mm to 4mm is tested. Experiment results show that the strike sensitivity and the friction sensitivity of RDX reduce as the diameter increases. The thermal safety of RDX with various shapes is studied by DSC test. Compared with the industrial RDX, the thermal stability of RDX with various shapes is as the same as the industrial RDX.The results obtained in this study are useful for increasing the continuity and automation of the RDX production. It has important significance on increasing the quality and production safety and expanding the particle size of RDX.
