Based On Component Reuse Renewable Furniture Design Research By

Recycled furniture design is a process that by using the discarded items as the main material to create or redesign a new furniture piece, which is also an eco-design concept and activity that is derived from the ecological culture and the social development needs. One of the basic methods of recycled furniture is to reuse the component of the material:by redesigning the component so that the life cycle of the entire piece of furniture would be extended.This paper analyzed the basic attributes of the reusable furniture components from4perspectives, which are the recycling pathway of the components, the using requirements, the functional attributes, and the outward attributes. The results show that when designers choose the components for recycled furniture design they have to consider the material processing technology, the sense of texture, the intensity, the ability of decorating, and also, other economic and environmental factors are essential, too. The functionality of the component is the central link of the whole recycled furniture design process:only coordinate the relationship between the shape, materials and structures of the components well could allow the designers convey their design ideas clearly. It also discussed3ways of using the components, which include repairing, replacing, and making new combination. By dealing with the surface and changing the structure to repair the components; by modular design the components' part and the linking piece of the furniture to replace the components; by using the secondary component and reusing the discarded materials to achieve the possible of new combination. Finally, it summarized the basic principles of the recycled furniture design, which are the selection, the very few principle and the ergonomics principle.
