The process of vacuum low pressure casting was researched in this paper in order to cast pump copper impeller with complicated characters. Pump copper impeller was made by combing rapid prototyping technology, the ceramic core techniques and water simulation technology.Firstly, vacuum low pressure casting device prepared for casting pump copper impeller was designed in order to ensure a well surface and dimensional accuracy, and to reduce casting defects of copper impeller castings. Secondly,2D drawing of copper impeller was converted into three-dimensional model. Core prototype of copper impeller was made by using rapid prototyping technology, and silicon rubber mould of the core prototype was reproduced. Using the optimum ceramic slurry formulation, the composite ceramic core of copper impeller was made by the layered coating slurry and sanding process.In the process of formulating processing parameters of vacuum low pressure casting, water simulation technology was used. The optimum processing parameters of vacuum low pressure casting was obtained by orthogonal experiments in the water simulator equipment, and the optimum processing parameters had been verified in the actual low pressure casting.Pump copper impeller casting was made by combing vacuum low pressure casting device, composite ceramic core of copper impeller and the optimum process parameters. The quality of casting was satisfied with the actual requirements.
