Organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) have potential application in flat-panel displays and white-lighting. The use of phosphorescent cyclometalated complexes in OLEDs greatly enhanced the external efficiency of the devices. Iridium phosphorescent complexes is extensively studied. Red phosphorescent material is important for full color displays, but is scarcely exploited. In this paper, a series of8-hydroxyquinnoline and2,2'-bipyridine derivatives, and the corresponding iridium complexes were synthesized. Details are as follows:1. Substitution of the8-hydroxyquinnoline ligand with nitro, trifluoromethyl, methyl, p-methylphenyl, triphenylamine at the5-position was completeded by the reaction of Ullmann, NBS substitution, Suzuki coupling reactions from8-hydroxyqu-innoline, then the corresponding iridium complexes were synthesized by using2-phenylpyridine as the anion ligand and8-hydroxyquinoline derivatives as the auxiliary ligand. The structure of the compounds were characterized by elementary analysis,1HNMR, ESI-MS. UV-vis and photoluminescence spectra in dichlorometha-ne solution of complexes in room temperature were studied, Photoluminescence spectra at77K and as solid powder were also studied, solid fluorescence, electroluminescent properties were simply studied, The quantum yield were studied by using integral sphere.2. A series of4,4'-bitsubstituted2,2'-bipyridine derivatives was synthesized by the reaction of oxidation, nitration, reduction, bromination, Suzuki coupling reaction from2,2'-bipyridine. The structure of the compounds were characterized by elementary analysis and1H NMR. These ligands will be used for the synthesis of Eu, Tb, Os, Ir, and Pt fluorescence or phosphorescence complexes, the work to be continued.
