Guar gum (GG) is a free from pollution to the environment of natural macromolecular water-soluble substance, and its main composition is half lacteal chitosan, its structure is dew byβ-1,4 glycosidase keys with D-mannose connection form the main chain, and in some mannose, through thea-1-,6 glycosidase keys with D-half of lactose form side chain, which constitute many-branched candy. Guar gum dissolve in water more slowly, viscosity of GG is difficult to control and the content of water insoluble is more higher, so Guar gum is often chemically modified to improve its physical and chemical properties, so that it can be used as thickeners for many functional applications.Solution polymerization of glycidyl methacrylate(GMA) onto guar gum(GG) using ceric ammonium nitrate was realized. The effects of reaction conditions on grafting ratio were studied. And the grafted product was characterized by FT-IR,TGA,XRD and DSC.Guar gum-methylacrylic acid ester of pp-g-peg shrink by semi-rigid main chain of guar gum and flexible glyceride branch chain of methylacrylic acid to shrink chemically combine closely, forming a huge volume, rigid-flexible economic reticular macromolecules, because of its structural features, when applied in coatings with good mixing, tolerance, into the membranous, stability, therefore, it will be a good application prospect, cheap and fine new coatings auxiliaries.
