Metallic island films have attracted great attention due to their unique chemical and physical properties, which make them applicable for use in optical tweezers, sensors, all-optical switching devices, and thin film solar cells. It has been proved that the surface Plasmon of nano-silver island films can enhance the absorption and photo current of organic photovoltaics effectively. Of great significance is the ability to tune and extend the surface plasmon wavelength, which is highly desirable in various applications of metallic nanoparticles. In this thesis, using the DC magnetron sputtering, we abtained the nano-silver island films. we experimentally and theoretically investigates some parameters on influence the surface Plasmon wavelength of nano-silver island films. Since the surface Plasmon wavelength depends on the particle size, shape, filling factor (i.e., volume fraction of the metal component in the island film), the dielectric properties of the metallic island itself, as well as the surrounding dielectric medium. We use TiO2 to change the underlayer medium. We also investigate the effect of the substrate temperature on the morphologies and optical properties of the films and on tuning the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) wavelength of silver island films. From the theoretical Simulation, we demonstrate the reason of the exchange of silver island films Optical absorption, using the Maxwell-Garnett theory. In order to demonstrate the enhancement of the surface Plasmon of nano-silver island films on the absorption of organic photovaltic materials, we using copper phthalocyanine (CuPc) as active material. We also manufacture a organic photovaltic cell as the configuration is ITO/Ag/CuPc/Ag, in which the current was enhanced about 1.33 compare to the ITO/CuPc/Ag. We investrate the thickness of silver island film, the substrate temperature and the configuration on influence the optical absorption of CuPc thin film. By studying the light absorption of Ag/CuPc thin films, we find the surface Plasmon of nano-silver island films can enhance the absorption of CuPc effective. We also demonstrate theoretically the reason of this enhancement.
