In the using period, they need to be maintained and reconstructed frequently, in order to keep their facilities in good conditions. Most of the time, they are keeping to be opened to traffic while maintenance is carrying on. It results their lanes number decreases, the capacity reduces, and many tangled operating conditions, such as lane changing, merging, diverging, tangled, etc. It is a tangled and unsafe segment of freeway. Now, the freeway need maintaining throughout in our country, accidents that happened at work zone gradually increase nowadays. It is very necessary and pressing to improve the road safety of freeway work zone.On the basis of analyzing existing research outcomes, the paper starts from accident data analyzing of work zone, and then analyses the main causes of accidents. According the collected traffic data, analyzing the changing regular of traffic flow. Building the freeway work zone traffic safety assessment which based on multilevel fuzzy comprehensive evaluation model. It offers an effective technique support for work zone traffic safety assessment, and gives a guidance to improve the level of work zone safety.First, the road safety constructing and non-construction, work zone and non-work zone segments of the same freeway are compared, describing the characteristic of work zone. Then analyzes accident data of work zone, find out the main causing factors of work zone accidents. At last, human-vehicle-road -environment evaluation guideline system is advanced.
