As China's expressway develops quickly, people pay much attention land use and environment impact, safety and service level of the expressway. To be an important component of the entire highway network, interchange project costs not only more expensive and takes a lot of land, which also must be concerned about the design as the important contents. That is why it received extensive attention and increasingly become an important research topic. In the analysis of existing domestic interchanges, the selection principle and some safety problems that should be noticed in the design were presented. Based on the traffic accident records and the research on traffic accident mechanism from both subjective and objective aspects, the factors that affect the traffic accident were put forward, such as vehicles, roads, environment and geometrical property. The paper analyzed the factors that affect the safety and studied the characteristics of automobile driving and drivers' reaction, the minimum distance between interchanges and the length of speed change lane were proposed. In this paper, research results is more in line with china interchange design and will have some guidance value for the panning and construction of highways.
