Because of its smoothness, no connection joints, driving comfort, small vibration, lower noise and other advantages, asphalt pavement was widely used in more and more countries. But the asphalt pavement was very sensitive to temperature, precipitation, sunshine and other natural conditions. Throgh long term effects of natural weather, asphalt material was continuous aging, in addition to increasing traffic volume year by year and accumulation of traffic load, large-scale vehicle, severe overload, chemotactic driving and other damages, early destruction phenomenon appeared in road pavement. In order not to make the asphalt pavement satus continue to deteriorate, to extend service period and maintain performance of road pavement, it should be taken positive and effective conservation measures. In view of surface cracking, seepage and other damage phenomena of asphalt pavement in China, the paper proposed a new type of preventive maintenance technology as Fibre Reinforcing Seal Technology on the base of foreign fibre seal course, which was mainly composed of fibre reinforcing stress absording memberane interlayer (FR-SAMI) and the upper wearing course (thin overlay or micro-surfacing). The technology combined the features of stress absorbing memberane and thin overlay, which could not only enhance the bond behavior between old and new pavement, put off the formation of reflection crack, but also could improve road service effectively. Fibre Reinforcing Seal was used for improving the waterproof property and skid resistance property of existing asphalt pavement, bridge deck pavement, cement concrete pavement and the restoation of rutting and smoothness. This paper mainly studied the material properties and road performance of Fibre Reinforcing Seal, and mainly included the following several aspects of research work.Firstly, material properties of Fibre Reinforcing Seal Technology were researched. FR-SAMI was composed of modified emulsified asphalt and E-glass fibres, SMA was selected as thin overlay, which had been adjusted slightly on the basis of norms. It was obtained better road performance.Secondly, the paper studied the main properties of FR-SAMI, including bond properties, waterproof property, cracking resistance, and determined the optimum amount of various materials of FR-SAMI. Using orthogonal method for test design and applying two performance indicators as shear strength and bond strength to evaluate bond behavior of the interface between old and new pavement, the optimum amount of various materials of FR-SAMI was determined. Asphalt rubber stress absorbing menberane, fiberglass-ployester and SBS bonding oil were selected to compare with FR-SAMI in bond behavior, which was shown that FR-SAMI had good bond property. It was shown that FR-SAMI had good waterproof property through exposure tracing seepage test and impermeability test after hot rolling. Cracking resistance of FR-SAMI was discussed by reciprocating roller wheel test. The paper analysised cracking resistance mechanism of FR-SAMI, discussed whether the fiber length could influence cracking resistance. Fiberglass-ployester, fiberglass geogrid and SBS bonding oil was selected to carry out in the comparative tests of crack resistance with FR-SAMI.Finally, it was analysised combining with Chuda highway test section, described the construction technoloyg of Fibre Reinforcing Seal, and detected the test road after running more than one year.
