Wind energy is clean and renewable, and its resources are rich in China. But the wind energy is random and intermittent, and its schedulability and stability is poor, making it difficult to generate steady electric power. With the rapid development of wind power generation during these years, many large wind farms were established, and the adverse impact of wind power fluctuations on power grid has become significant. Large-scale wind farms usually locate in remote areas or at sea, far from load centers. So they will influence the grid power quality and its stability, or even constrain the integrated capacity of wind farms, affecting the development of wind power generation. Thus it is particularly important for wind farms to provide energy efficiently and steadily.In this paper, we put forward an improvement scheme of distributed energy storage system (ESS) to cope with this effect, and to maximize the utilization ratio of wind power. Energy storage systems can smooth the fluctuations of wind power, and they perform better in larger wind farms. Our research focuses on the model of ESS and wind power generators, simulation of ESS's effect, the coordination of distributed ESS and its application perspective. The main work of this paper is shown below:(1) Summarize the development status of wind power generation in China, characteristics of wind power generation, the impact of wind power integrating into power grid, and research status on ESS in wind power generation both at home and abroad, then propose the concept of Distributed Energy Storage System.(2) Analyze the characteristics of ESS and wind power conversion system, build their model, and run simulation in Matlab/Simulink. Compare the differences between aggregated ESS and distributed ESS and draw conclusions. Discuss the storage capacity of ESS preliminary.(3) Discuss the coordination of distributed ESS using multivariate statistical analysis and multi-objective evolutionary algorithm, and analyze the interaction effects of multiple ESSs to coordinate them. (4) Discuss the perspective of wind power generation and distributed ESS, and propose the further expanded research work in future.
