Owing to the rising global energy consumption, the wind power technology has made great progress on both the academic and the practical area. In the wind power filed, the ability to absorb and transfer energy largely depends on the performance of a wind turbine. The blades, as the key components of the entire structure, are directly related to the turbine's efficiency and service life. Since the traditional blades don't match the requirements well and cause tremendous manufacturing cost, this thesis focuses on a new type of wind turbines aim to address these problems above. This thesis applied the Magnus effect into the design of the turbine blades and raised a idea of a new type of wind turbines with cylindrical blades. To realize this assumption, the following steps were taken: First, a concrete turbine mathematical model was set up; Then, the working principle was introduced; Third, a detailed analysis on the aerodynamic performance of the blades was followed; Forth, the influence factors of the blades'performance were cleared and the largest parameters in all kinds of conditions were selected by the way of the comparisons between different pressure fields and velocity fields as well as velocity ratios and Reynolds numbers. Last, the entire wind turbine simulation was finished. According to the original calculation results, the whole performance gained certain level of improvement. This thesis broke the tradition that the cylindrical blades took the place of the usual airfoils. This action not only achieved better effects, but also reduced the manufacturing and maintaining costs. In the overall design, the rotating blades changed their directions in order to produce constant lift. As the pleasant lift and other results, the performance of the wind turbine was improved somehow.Above all, the author did a research on a new type of vertical axis wind turbines with cylindrical blades. Due to the advantages of these blades, the wind turbines'cost was compressed and the processing was simplified. Therefore, this thesis is of important theoretical and practical significance.
