The reticulated shells are used widely more and more because of its good mechanics performance and large span. Nowadays, the researchers have done a lot of work at the failure mechanism of reticulated shells under severe earthquakes .they have got some achievement .In the past, the reticulated shells have been boiled down to three-dimensional pedestal with hinge teams, while supporting structure have been always used in the underpart of the reticulated shells .there must have a lot deviation without the considering of the supporting structure. therefore, the research of the failure mechanism of reticulated shells under severe earthquakes ,considering the supporting structure, is necessary .at the same time, the more accurate view of aseismatic design should been put forward as soon as possible. Based on these practical problems, in this paper, the failure mechanism of reticulated shells under severe earthquakes with the influencing of considering the supporting structure is studied systemically.Firstly, the single-layer latticed shells with substructure are modeled as a whole model whose character of natural oscillation is studied in this paper. Analysing the influence of natural oscillation's character by the structure's parameters, such as the stiffness of the substructure, the load of the roof, rise-span ratio and so on, is proposed so as to be used for the further study of the failure mechanism of reticulated shells under severe earthquakes considering the influence of the substructure's stiffness.Secondly, the failure mechanism of reticulated shells under severe earthquakes considering the influence of the substructure's stiffness is studied in this paper. After analysing the overall process of dynamic loading region in the model example, it is found that there are two failure type of the reticulated shells considering the influence of the substructure's stiffness, which are strength failure of the whole strong substructure and strength failure of part of the week substructure. Large-scale parameter analysis to the stiffness of substructure, the load of the roof, rise-span ratio and so on is done to get the influence law of ultimate load of the reticulated shells'failure.Lastly, simple analytical method has been presented about the single-layer latticed sphere shells structure which has considered the influence of the stiffness of substructure. Compared the grand and microcosmic response between the simple analytical model and reticulated shells considering the influence of the substructure's stiffness, finds that this simple analytical method is feasible.
