In the field of motor drive applications, generally, a highly dynamic responses for a load variation and a speed change, and robustness for variation of motor parameters are required. The characteristics of the speed control strongly depends on an appropriate selection of the speed control gains. At this time, it is necessary to know the moment of inertia of whole system including the motor and the load. This article firstly analyses the exiting algorithms on inertia identification and PI self-turning and then compare their own advantages and disadvantages in detail. The methods based on identification scheme and MARS are used to identify the inertia. From the analysis of the effect of reference speed signal on the results of inertia identification, the discipline can be determined. In order to meet the features of the HEV system in which the range of the inertia is very large ,this paper adopt an improvement scheme in which the gain of MARS could be changed that guarantee the timeliness. The speed observer, considering the error of speed, ensures the identification accuracy and improves the speed control as well.In order to improve the dynamic performance of permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) servo system, the algorithm is deduced from the relationship between PI adaptive parameters and the inertia. Based on the on-line inertia identification, the controller renews the parameters of the observer so that when the mechanical parameters of its own changes, the torque is observed accurately in this way.The issue did the simulation which verified the feasibility of inertia identification and parameters on tuned, the servo system output is stable when the speed and the load changes.
