This dissertation focuses on assembling the deployable structures based on the Bennett linkage, a spacial overstrained mechanism, for the applications in aerospace engineering , civil engineering and toy industry and so on.For the kinematic links which only contain revolute pairs are more reliable and stable, compared with other modal ones. The synthesis of mechanism composed of revolute pair, prismatic pair and screw pair was done in this thesis. This work based on Screw Theory, utilizing the Lie Group to describe the movement, contained the synthesis of freedom and feasible motion. Finally, the table of mechanism synthesis was listed. The main part of this paper was the assemble of large foldable structures based on Bennett linkage. First and foremost, an innovative design was applied to Bennett linkage attained a novel scissor Bennett mechanism. Then, the scissor Bennett mechanisms were used to form the large plannar deployable network. After that, Bennett linkage and scissor Bennett mechanism was assembled to basic module respectively. Lastly, several different large foldable structures were constructed through these modules. Then the movement of Bennett linkage was analyzed based on D-H parametric method, followed by the movement analysis of scissor Bennett mechanism, planner large network and modularized large networks, and the result was simulated by ADMAS. Eventually, the research of cable-stiffness of large deployable structures was finished. Different patterns of cable-stiffness were contrasted, after that, the optimization of geometry parameters and modal analysis were done via APDL.
