Electromagnetic acoustic transducer (EMAT) is a type of device that excite and detect ultrasonic. It has many advantages because of non-contact and successfully extends ultrasonic nondestructive testing to high temperature, high-speed, online and other harsh environments. However, as a result of the working mechanism of EMAT is very complex, the working electric, magnetic, acoustic performance will directly affect the electromagnetic ultrasonic transducer characteristics. Therefore, electromagnetic acoustic transducer has a lot of the problem about principle or application which is not resolved. In order to fundamentally improve or resolve these issues as soon as possible and put the electromagnetic acoustic transducer into wider range of production practice, this project focus on theoretic alanalysis of the principle of EMAT in order to improve the conversion efficiency. It uses finite element analysis software for electromagnetic ultrasonic transducer modeling, simulation, analysis and comparison of results for parameter optimization. The work study the impact of shape and size of electromagnetic and length, width, lift-off distance of coils on the vortex strength by simulate different parameters of the magnet and coil transducer and achieved certain results.
