It squanders time and vigor to inspect power line in distribution network, whenfault occurs. It makes the fault location more difficult because of the incorrectoperation of device, the diversity of fault causes and the incompleteness ofinformation transmission.For the sake of fast trouble shooting, a new fault location technology fordistribution network is proposed. Fault indicators are used to collect fault information.Radio frequency communication and the technology of GPRS are adopted to send thesignals to the center of fault location system. Graphical components are used todescribe the topology of the distribution network. The adjacency relation of faultindicators is acquired from the topological structure. The signals of fault indicatorsand fault sections are regarded as condition attributes and decision attributes. In orderto reduce the original decision table, an attribute reduction algorithm based on distinctmatrix and logical operation is used. The original decision table and reductivedecision table are generated directly by using the adjacency relation and reductionrule refined. On this basis, the characteristics of fault modes under single fault andmultiple faults are analyzed. The simulation examples are used to inspect thecorrectness of the method mentioned.The simulation results show that the new method not only enhances the accuracyof fault location, but also improves the speed. It is able to satisfy the basicrequirements of fault location for distribution system.
