The connection of steel structure in house is very important to transfer the force. Chinese steel structure designers always says "column is stronger than beam, but connection is much stronger". Reduced beam section connection of steel structure is one of the typical forms to move plastic hinge outward from the beam and column interface. By trimming beam flanges, the plastic hinge will be formed in the region away from the welds that have more fracture proneness due to stress concentration and welding sensitivity, and thus reducing the possibility of brittle fracture of connections and improving the ductility of the structure with connections.In this dissertation, research on reduced beam section connection with different geometry and material has been finished. By adopting nonlinear finite element static-dynamic method, analysis and comparison of the bearing capacity and hysteretic behavior in connection with reduced and no-reduced beam section is conducted. The effects of the parameters, such as position, length and depth, on the bearing capacity, plastic hinge position and seismic performance of the weakened flange are studied. Result shows that although the bearing capacity of reduced beam section connection decreases a little, stress distribution in partial region of connection will be changed, and thus the external movement of plastic hinge in connection is realized. With reducing beam flange, hysterrisis curve of connection is more well-shape, capacity of consuming energy and ductility with connection has been improved. The influence on the bearing capacity and seismic performance of parameters in connection, such as position, length and depth should not be neglected, and moreover, comprehensive considerations of all reducing parameter is needed and valuable, which can provide useful reference and basis for the seismic design and optimization of the connection on steel structure in house.By comparison, the bearing capacity and resisting seismic performance of beam section connection reduced on material are better than the one reduced on geometry, and it may become a new research subject of the connection on steel structure in house. The research work on this field can provide useful reference and basis for the seismic design and optimization of the connection on steel structure in house.
