The application of reinforced renovation, including the added and renovated stories building has a broad prospect in China, in which choosing a reasonable plan of reinforced renovation is crucial. The original structure is only once calculated before modeling in conventional way reinforced design in general and the effect of strengthening local com-ponent on the structural properties were not considered. These may result in presence of the hazards and make extra cost. The research, performance-based framework for strengthening the structure by reinforced renovation in this paper, has important practical significance.In this paper, the optimal design of reinforced specific method and steps of considering the structure overall performance are elaborated comprehensively based on the summary of the research and application of added and renovated stories building.Engineering structures seismic evaluation are conducted combined with instances of added and renovated frame structure. After analysis the weakened structural performance by added and renovated stories and the existence of seismic safety problems, the structure of overall optimization of reinforcement method is studied. The gradual op-timization design of reinforced structure is made for the specific project. Reinforcement of the conventional design methods and the gradual optimization of structural reinforcement design, which is overall structure-based, are respectively modeling calculated and then compared. The results show that: it is not only improving seismic performance but also reducing the workload of the structural reinforcement by the gradual optimization of structural reinforcement design based on the overall structural system.This study can draw a conclusion: the reinforcement method for the whole structure based on structural system can overcome the system deficiencies from local reinforcement or components'renovation.This gradually optimized method can effectively reduce the number of elements which are used for strengthening. It shows that the overall performance-based framework for strengthening the structure by reinforced renovation, with good security and economy.
