At present the theory and method of two-dimensional slope stability analysis has been to perfect. Considering the 3D features of most landslides, three-dimensional analysis for the slope will be the future trend of development. Nowadays, the main methods for three-dimensional slope stability analysis are limit equilibrium and strength reduction FEM. These methods do not consider the shear resistance along the two sides of the slide mass that parallel the direction of movement in calculating the 3D factor of safety, and this shear resistance is called lateral friction. Based on this background, this paper presents a method that can consider the shear resistance along the slip surface of a 3D slope, it is called the slip surface stress method of 3D slope. The major research is listed below:1)According to the introduction of literature, this paper compiled the calculation procedure of 2D slip surface stress method. And it is used to calculate the homogeneous slope, the inhomogeneous slope, and slope that contains soft layer, these slopes are also calculated by the strength reduction FEM method. By comparing the results of two methods, the 2D slip surface stress method is proved reliable. And it is the base of the subsequent 3d sliding surface stress method.2)This paper proposed a method called 3D slip surface stress method to analyze the stability of soil slope. The method can consider all of the shear resistance along the slip surface of a 3D slope. As we all know, the limit equilibrium method need to solve a large number of equations and the method of strength reduction FEM's mechanical mechanism is not clear, so the method avoids the above-mentioned shortcomings. In this 3D method, the slip surface is regarded as approximately the surface of an elliptic revolution for homogeneous soil slope and combined slips for inhomogeneous soil slope. The most dangerous slip surface is searched through stress transformation for quadratic surface, the traditional definition of safety factor and genetic algorithm. Finally, this 3-D method has been proven reliable by examples.3)This paper studied the safety of convex slope with different curvature by comparing the results calculated by the 3D slip surface stress method and the strength reduction FEM method. In this calculation, the former method calculated the convex slope safety factor considering lateral friction and the safety factor not considering lateral friction. It proved that the lateral friction boundary conditions for 3D slope is important...
