With the development of hydropower industry and the increase of unit capacity of units, the requirements of the unit is getting high,not only the availability, operating efficiency and security of the unit, but also the reliability and economy of the unit is proposed a higher demand. Excitation system, as a core control system of the synchronous generator, directly affects the reliability and stability of generator operating. Therefore, it's very important to ensure safe and rdliable of the excitation system. The monitoring and diagnosis of excitation system will not only improve the availability of maintenance but also enhance the reliability of power system.Based on the condition monitoring and diagnosis status of the excitation system,with the key points of the condition monitoring of the excitation system,this paper presents the research and analysis of the excitation system,including the algorithm of the monitoring, data storage, simulation quasi-synchronism arrangement in parallel, voltage build-up, load rejection, etc. The research work mainly focuses on three aspects:(1) Monitoring the state of the excitation system and analyzing the algorithm of the state variables, the property value of the amount of the monitoring are found and the normal or failure amount of the monitoring are saved.(2) When the synchronous generators are put into transmission-line system of electric power by the way of the quasi-synchronism arrangement in parallel, the parameters of the quasi-synchronism arrangement in parallel are measured,such as the amplitude difference,frepuency difference,phase,leading time,voltage difference of the closing order,to judge the good or bad of the quasi-synchronism arrangement in parallel.(3) The theoretical analysis of the voltage build-up, load rejection, no-load step,load step,de-excitation are presented, such as the purpose of the test, the conditions of the test, performance standards,national standards.The matlab simulation is used for synchronous generator excitation system to get the simulation waveform of the test. Sampling of the simulation waveform, the performance standards using the corresponding algorithms in real time are obtained. Compared the performance standards with national standards,it is easy to judge the experiment successful or not. At last this paper is summarized and looks forward the further research work to be developed.
